AFRA Best Management Practice – BMP
The AFRA Best Management Practice (BMP) Guide 5.1, released on January 1, 2025, is the latest version of our comprehensive guidelines for managing used aircraft parts and assemblies, as well as recycling aircraft materials at the end of their service life. This guide is divided into two main documents:
- Disassembly Best Management Practice (BMP) for Management of Used Aircraft Parts and Assemblies
- Recycling Best Management Practice (BMP) for Management of Used Aircraft Parts and Assemblies
Each BMP is accompanied by:
- Audit Guidance Checklists: These provide a structured framework to assess conformity with BMP standards during audits.
- Practice Guides with Minimum Standards: These offer detailed instructions and establish the minimum requirements necessary to meet BMP criteria.
Additionally, AFRA has introduced two new standalone resources to further support industry best practices:
- AFRA ESD Best Practice Document: Provides guidance on environmentally sustainable disassembly practices.
- AFRA Form 1: Asset End-of-Life Certificate: A standardized form for certifying the responsible end-of-life management of aircraft assets.
These resources collectively provide a comprehensive framework to help members achieve AFRA’s high standards for environmentally responsible practices and align with circular economy goals.
Note: There is a six-month transition period for implementing BMP Guide 5.1, ending on July 1, 2025. After that date all audits will be conducted exclusively to BMP 5.1.
These documents provide in-depth guidance to support your compliance efforts.
